GSE was contracted by Sunbelt Adventist Healthcare (Florida Hospital) as an Industrial Hygiene consultant for all of their central Florida locations. Industrial hygiene projects for this client included: sound level exposure monitoring, chemical and hazardous waste exposure monitoring, indoor air quality and aeromycology (mold) studies, odor control, and radon gas survey of seven area hospitals.
Activities included:
- A Sound level dosimetry to determine OSHA compliance for boiler operators and laboratory employees.
- An indoor air quality study (including real time VOC monitoring during surgery) in the cardiac operating theater suites. This study included air toxics, ventilation efficiency, and aeromycology monitoring.
- A Phase One indoor air quality plus air toxics (VOC’s, aldehydes, total dust) testing in office areas.
- Aeromycology and particulate clearance testing of a new cardiac wing.
- A Hazardous Materials handling evaluation, consulting and employee training in response to OSHA and County requirements.
- Aeromycology and particulate diagnostic, pre- and post mitigation testing of a cancer treatment wing.
- Industrial hygiene monitoring of laboratory employees for formaldehyde exposure.
- An operating theater aeromycology study in response to construction related mold exposure issues and provided post mitigation clearance testing of same.
- Aeromycology and particulate testing to track down and find a hidden mold source caused by a leaky sink.
- A hospital wide Phase One indoor air quality testing to assist Engineering with their HVAC system evaluation during the acquisition phase of the campus.
- An odor study. The problem was traced to a leaky roof drain in a wall cavity between additions.
- Radon compliance testing of twenty-four hour care facilities.
- Preparing written reports with conclusions at the completion of projects.
