Asbestos Material Survey

GSE was contracted to perform the pre-inspection required prior to demolition of the ~43,000 square feet of warehouse space. The purpose of the asbestos material survey was to inspect the accessible interior building spaces and exterior surfaces to identify the suspect friable asbestos-containing materials and to collect and analyze samples of these materials in order to determine the presence and extent of asbestos-containing building materials within the site.

The materials sampled were limited to suspect materials of the following categories:

  • Surfacing materials

  • Ceiling materials

  • Thermal system insulation

  • Wall materials

  • Floor coverings

  • Roofing materials

  • Miscellaneous materials (limited to mastics)

The sampling, analysis and reporting were executed in accordance with applicable federal, state and local regulations. All services were provided under the direction of a Licensed Asbestos Consultant. The services included the following:

  • Visual inspection of accessible study site building spaces for suspect asbestos-containing materials

  • Identification of homogeneous suspect asbestos-containing materials.

  • Collection of bulk material samples of accessible suspect materials.

  • Analysis of bulk material samples by Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) by a NVLAP accredited laboratory.

  • Assessment of asbestos-containing materials regarding general condition, friability, exposure risk and potential for disturbance.

  • Determination of general material locations and distributions within the study site.

  • Evaluation of field and laboratory results by a Licensed Asbestos Consultant.

  • Preparation of a report presenting the findings, copies of all analytical laboratory reports, discussion of conclusions, and itemized recommendations regarding corrective action.
