Continuing General Consulting Services for Landfill Projects
WASTE MANAGEMENT INC., Florida
GSE provides Continuing General Consulting Services for Landfill Projects with Waste Management Inc. (WMI) located in Apopka, Deland, Ocala, and Winter Garden, Florida. Under this contract, the projects GSE has predominately worked on include:
- Provided engineering services to address a C&D disposal facility permit renewal application request for additional information (RAI).
- Provided consulting support for the special exception renewal process for an existing 60-acre class III landfill and 21 acre borrow pit. This included:
- Meetings with County staff.
- Provision of application sections on geology.
- Landfill operations/monitoring and closure.
- Attendance at County board public hearings.
- Assistance with presentations and responses to County staff comments.
- Provided geotechnical services to produce an evaluation required under FDEP Rule 62-701.410(3), for a new cell at a landfill. The items investigated included:
- Subsurface geology based on site soil borings.
- Potential for soft ground or limestone lineaments.
- Fault and seismic zones
- Average and maximum water table.
- Sinkhole potential based on State of Florida data bases, maps, and topography.
- A final letter report was prepared in support of the permitting application.
- Provided monitoring well installation and reporting to the FDEP for a Class III landfill. These wells were requested to be installed by the FDEP at a meeting to discuss the new cell construction that would be occurring at the site.
- Provided geotechnical services to investigate a small sinkhole that developed along the entrance road to a closed landfill. GSE's investigation Included:
- Working with Universal Engineering Sciences to conduct a boring investigation of the sink hole area, in an effort to determine the depth and potential extent of the sink, and recommended remedial actions.
