Permitting and Design of Phosphoric Acid Tank

GSE completed the design and permitting of a 17,000 gallon phosphoric acid process tank at a fertilizer plant. For this project, GSE teamed with Phoenix Engineering Group, Inc., Tampa, for the mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) portion of the design work. GSE utilized Anuvia supplied CDM Smith plans for the existing chemical storage tanks and tanker off-loading areas in order to develop the permitting and construction plans to support the project. GSE confirmed the Orange County Building Safety permits that were required for construction and GSE prepared the required permit applications and plans to obtain the permit. Specific design items for this project included:
- Design modification of the existing tank pad containment wall to house an additional 17,000 gallon tank
- Design of pressurized distribution piping, pumps and valves from the off-loading area to the tank and from the tank to the process line
- Design of electrical power connections to additional equipment as required
- Modification of the existing control systems to include the acid transfer.
- Modification of the FDEP Bio-Solids permit to add the phosphate process.
- Updating the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan to include the new tank and containment plus narratives addressing the new potential pollutant.
The proposed tank installation was approved by orange county and was carried out.
